The Banshee is a female spirit that is perceived has an omen of death and a messenger. In many mythology, the banshee is a fairy that wails ("Keening") when a death is about to occur. In the Scottish mythology, known as bean sith, is seen washing the armour or bloodstain of who's about to die. it is said that the first time one hears a banshee wail, one's blood turns to water (Yoder, 1974).

The banshee is normally seen wearing colours such as green and red  (otherworld colours) or occasionally swathed in unearthly white or somber grey. he was sometimes seen combing her hair with golden comb. Commonly, when a person dies a banshee would sing a lament ("caoin", meaning to weep or to wail) (Monaghan, 2010).

It was said that only certain families were entitled to banshees.   Those often mentioned were the O'Briains, the Magraths, the Hynes and the Faheys. Other sources mention only five great families were entitled to banshees; the O'Briains, the O'Gradys, the O'Neils, the  O'Conchobhairs and the Caomhanach (Monaghan, 2010).
